Normally, I’m an Adium kind of guy, but I thought I’d try MS Messenger when 7.0 came out a little while ago.  Well, now they’ve updated it to 7.01 and you can get it here.  Thanks to MacNN for the heads-up.

Let’s be careful out there…

macnn, among other sites, has posted a warning about a Mac Trojan in the wild.  Trojans spread by masquerading as a legitimate program and aren’t able to spread on its own like Viruses can.  So it’s up to us to keep Trojans out of our systems.  As the Mac gets more popular, you can bet we’ll be seeing more and more of these…

Updated to FireFox 3!

June 17, 2008 Leave a comment

Have you updated to the latest FireFox yet?  I just did.  It is definitely faster than FireFox 2!  And so far, no crashes or other problems.  The only issue I have with it is that I probably updated too early.  I didn’t allow time for one of my favorite extensions to be updated for the new FireFox.  That extension is Tab Mix Plus and you can read all about it here.

The one other thing I did with this version was to copy my profile to a new directory (one that I could actually remember the name of 🙂 ) and create a new profile to point to it.  That way, all my hard earned extensions, bookmarks and folders along with the order I put them in would be carried across to the new version.  (Actually, I didn’t try starting it up to see if FF3 would create a new profile or use the old profile)  If anyone wants to let me know whether I maybe wasted my time could let me know.

If you want to know how to copy your existing profile info, see the Mac-specific info located here.  Once you have a copy, put it to good use by creating a new profile using the info found here.

Have fun!

Parallels 5600 works!

June 14, 2008 Leave a comment

In a previous post, I noted that Parallels build 5600 somehow screwed up my VM such that even if I uninstalled build 5600 and went back to build 5582, Windows would still not boot up.  It was only by copying over a pre-5600 VM that I was able to boot Windows again.  Well, I finally had some time to try installing build 5600 again.  The one big difference, I think, from last time to this one is that I made sure I shut down Windows and that the VM was stopped.  I don’t really know if that is what made the difference, but I was able to download and install build 5600 just fine.

Sorry, but I’m not going back to figure out how to recreate a broken install.  All I know is that I now have a working VM again.  And boy, am I glad. 🙂
